The POMONA COLLECTION is inspired by the environment of Orkney. Pomona is the historical name of the largest island within the archipelago of Orkney, north of mainland Scotland. The coast, the light, the water, the abandoned fishnets, the floating seaweed and their colours; they make me feel like I can drift along, transition from place to place, internally and externally. As I continued to create the bags, many more themes and inspirations emerged, interweaving their way into the collection.
The 7 bags each have their own title and their own story:
ONCE IN A BLUE MOON
DISCARDED WEBBING
MEANDERING / ENDEAVOURING
TRANSFIGURATION
CLOUDLESS INVESTIGATING
DISTORTION / SCATTERED
AS A WHOLE
Every bag in the POMONA COLLECTION is one of a kind, made with resources available at the time of creation. SJOEKIE worked with second hand and dead stock materials, to be as ecologically sustainable as possible, as a response to what they have learned about the fashion industry, especially fast fashion. There are enough clothes and fabrics that can be used more than once to create other garments. All the materials and fabrics used in this collection are second hand or dead stock, sourced at markets and shops, or have been received as a donation.
The POMONA COLLECTION will be launched on the 9th of May 2025 and is available through SJOEKIE's website by emailing them: sjoekie.studio@outlook.com.
Collection photography by Tosca Schutte, modelling by Lotte Huisman, Erasmus Mackenna en Gigi van der Veer and styling by SJOEKIE.
